William Meisburger

Printmaker

Show 2022 entitled "Markings."

Devoted printmaker.  Charleston native.  Teacher.

"The square etchings are all etched steel plates. They are based on the idea that patterns repeat in nature from the microscopic level on up. The pieces are influenced by my sister’s work in satellite imagery and my mom’s as a pediatric nurse. Work has been a direct reaction to the strict teaching I received at the graduate level at Penn State. I moved into a more organic way of printing: ie no numbered editions. Each print has multiple layers until it feels right. This is based on the influence to think and create freely taught to me by Michael Tyzack, John Michel, and Barbara Duval at C of C.

Color is always the top priority. Love Matisse, the Fauvists. Alice Ravenel Huger Smith was a big inspiration."
